Britain’s Brown to meet Dalai Lama

LONDON — British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Wednesday that he will meet the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, when he comes to London in May. Brown has been reluctant in the past to commit to talks with the Dalai Lama, leading to accusations that he is being soft on China.

Brown also revealed that he had spoken earlier in the day to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who had told him he would enter into discussions with the Dalai Lama on two preconditions — that the Dalai Lama renounces violence and does not call for the complete independence of Tibet, two assurances which the Chinese premier has already received.

Why are the Chinese asking for what the Dalai Lama has already said??? Could it be they have no intentions of talking to him?
